How to Deep Clean Your Mattress

by Waverly Wilde

When your mattress needs a deep cleaning, there are luckily only 6 easy steps to follow!

Remove Sheets and blankets

Don’t just lift the covers up and brush debris off the mattress with your hand -- it’s time to strip your bed down to nothing! This way, you’ll be able to get into all the nooks and crannies that need some serious attention.

Vacuum Your Mattress

Now that the covers are off, it’s time to vacuum every inch of your mattress. Some sections of your bed may seem spotless, but there’s a lot of bacteria resting on yours that’s invisible to the eye. Dead skin is just one example of something that layers your mattress while hiding in plain sight.

Scrub the Stains

If your mattress is sporting any stains, now’s the time to wipe them away with a simple concoction:  dish soap and hydrogen peroxide. Combine equal parts into a spray bottle and then scrub away the discolored spots until it looks like they never even existed.

Sprinkle Baking Soda

Baking soda is the key ingredient when it comes to cleaning your mattress. Sprinkle a good amount over your bed and let sit for as long as you want. We recommend at least an hour to help it absorb moisture and oils as well as kill any odors that may be lingering on your mattress.

Vacuum (Again)

Once you’ve waited for the baking soda to do its trick, it’s time to vacuum again. Be sure to thoroughly vacuum it all up, too. You wouldn’t want to sleep over the sandy texture of baking soda!

Add a Mattress Cover

And just like a cherry on top, add a mattress protector over your bed! This nifty cover prevents messes from seeping into your mattress which means you don’t have to deep clean as often.

We hope these tips help you keep your mattress in good condition! Of course, if yours is past the point of no return, stop by our store to find a fresh one that’ll suit your lifestyle.
